Day 28: Taylor Departs - Hutchinson Rest Day

The group makes a decision that it is best to rip off the bandage and split ways. Celebrating my birthday was the last hoorah! Now, Taylor departs at 5 a.m. while Annalisa and I take a rest day.

A quick message at 5 a.m. as Taylor departs from Hutchinson, Kansas.

Group Dynamics of a Three Month Trip

We decided to rip off the bandaid.

Taylor is inspired by the Trans Am cyclists to do more miles and maybe finish the trail by July 24th. She could then fly home to New Orleans for a wedding.

Annalisa and I have our blogs to maintain and long days give us no energy to write.

The tug-of-war between long miles and shorter days would not magically disappear. Therefore, a big celebration marks a perfect time to say goodbye.

Meeting a Stranger

I did not know Taylor before this trip. Neither did Annalisa.

We met on a bike forum.

Taylor has been an inspiration by being such a powerful rider each and every day. She is the navigator, group alarm clock, chef, and the representation of the South.

I cannot wait to cheer her on one day in the Trans Am race.

We hope to see you soon. But maybe like Ben Afflect to Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting, maybe her departing is the best thing at this moment in life:

But you know what the best part of my day is? It’s for about ten seconds from when I pull up to the curb to when I get to your door. Because I think maybe I’ll get up there and I’ll knock on the door and you won’t be there. No goodbye, no see you later, no nothin’. Just left. I don’t know much, but I know that.

Taylor, go out into the world and conquer it.
